Hydrogen infrastructure as public space

Why a refuelling station can be a canopy, a shade and a meeting point: notes from the Sparks KSA project.

Energy infrastructure is usually designed to be invisible. This talk argues the opposite: the hydrogen station of the Sparks KSA project is conceived as a civic canopy, a shaded public ground that welcomes people before it welcomes cars.

The paper discusses the perforated canopy, the modular research hub and the way the project turns a technical programme into an urban experience.
